Speech Therapy Services For Children with Motor Speech Disorders

A new assessment protocol and an evidence-based treatment programme will be implemented for Cantonese-speaking children with speech sound disorders related to speech motor ability. Training for speech therapists to use these tools will also be provided.

Impact / Expected Impact

This project aims to provide speech therapy services to children with a type of Speech sound disorders (SSDs) which related to speech motor abilities, and to train speech therapists in implementing the newly proposed assessment protocol and evidence-based treatment programme. An intensive assessment protocol, a list of diagnostic criteria for a type of motor speech disorders, childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), and an evidencebased treatment programme which is designed for Cantonese-speaking children will be delivered to help children with SSDs.
