Garment Workers Rejuvenate/ Splendid Fashion

Splendid Fashion

The once flourishing textile industry in Hong Kong fostered a group of garment making expertise. Yet after the relocation of textile industry to Mainland China, many of these workers lost their jobs and failed to make a living. In 2006, Lok Kwan Social Service established Splendid Fashion to help these workers get back to the scene. With a studio opened in San Po Kong, Splendid provided job opportunities for experienced garment workers, through which they can rebuild confidence, and maintain a connection with society.

Unlike the in eighties when the garment industry bustled and orders came in large quantity, Splendid now deals with clients from television programmes and design schools, who expect non-standardised items and more custom-made details. To cope with the changes, Splendid works closely with young designers to develop fashion shows and fashion brands.
In 2014, it started Splendid Workshop and organized sewing and pattern-making class for designers and the general public to improve their skills. Through these co-operations, a platform for mutual learning and enhancement is created. It also arouses public interests in the local garment industry, and more market opportunities can thus be explored.
