Mr Kan Ming-tung

Personal Profile

Mr Kan Ming-tung holds a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in social sciences and is a registered social worker. Noting that Kwun Tong has been the district with the highest poverty rate for many years in a row, he determined to be based in Kwun Tong and deploy his professional knowledge and 20-plus years of experience to serve the grassroots. Currently, he is a member of the Kwun Tong District Council and the Chairman of its Social Services, Education and Women Development Committee.

Mr Kan strives to help the grassroots overcome personal and family problems. With a concern for community issues regarding the environment and transport, he is committed to improving the quality of life of the residents. He often visits tenants of public housing units and sub-divided units to understand grassroots needs. He also senses their expectations toward the government through these visits. He, therefore, seeks to build a bridge to facilitate communication between the people and the government, employing diverse means to handle cases to help assistance-seekers obtain the support they need.

In addition to supporting the government in district administration, Mr Kan also takes the initiative to connect non-governmental organisations, schools and corporations to facilitate cross-sector collaborations that provide support for the grassroots and underprivileged.

Expectation towards Social Innovation and the SIE Fund

"I am most grateful for the appointment by the HKSAR Government to the SIE Fund Task Force under the fifth-term Commission on Poverty. Aiming to address ever-changing social needs, I hope I can use my knowledge and experiences to serve in the Task Force to support the government to take forward “targeted poverty alleviation”, push forward poverty-alleviating work, connect different sectors, earnestly address people’s concerns and difficulties in daily life, direct resources to those most in need."
