Developing smart glasses and providing real-time visual assistance to visually impaired persons

Riding on the success of two prototype projects (namely, WeVision and WeVoice+) launched in 2021 with SIE Fund’s support, the venture aims to provide real-time visual assistance to visually impaired persons through the use of self-developed smart glasses and a mobile app. With a high-resolution camera and a bone-acoustic transmission device installed in the smart glasses, the backend staff or volunteers can offer visual support to the users via video calls. Apart from human support, recognition functions using artificial intelligence will also be available to assist the users to identify text, colour and banknotes.

Five persons with disabilities and/or from low-income families will be trained and hired to provide backend support to smart glasses users.

Two hundred pairs of smart glasses will be produced and sold to non-governmental organisations to benefit visually impaired persons.
