#Digital Glossary – Firewall
Firewall
A "firewall" is a network security technology that monitors incoming and outgoing network traffic. Based on predefined rules, it allows or blocks specific data transmissions, defending against threats such as malicious attacks, adware, and malware.

However, a firewall cannot fully guarantee online security. Therefore, elders should remain vigilant when using the internet: avoid clicking on suspicious links, refrain from browsing unknown websites and do not disclose personal information casually. By keeping these principles in mind, they can safely enjoy the convenience and joys of the digital world.
"Smart Silver" Digital Inclusion Programme for Elders
"Smart Silver" Digital Inclusion Programme for Elders reaches its one-year milestone! With the collaborative efforts of 12 implementing organisations and various sectors of society, the programme has already served over 100 000 elders, enabling them to enjoy the convenience brought by digitalisation and enhancing their sense of digital empowerment.

The programme includes: offering practical training courses tailored to the needs of the elders, establishing 40 community-based help desks across all 18 districts of Hong Kong to provide on-site technical support and consultation services. The programme also actively collaborates with local organisations and professional groups to jointly organise digital inclusion activities for the elders, further enhancing their digital application skills and confidence, helping them integrate into smart living.

Programme representatives continue to conduct monthly visits to District Councils for on-site promotions to expand the reach of the programme, leveraging the community influence of the District Councils to show more elders the convenience brought by technology, thereby helping to improve their living standards and sense of happiness.
To further raise public awareness of the "Smart Silver" programme, a series of promotional advertisements was launched in mid-December 2025, appearing on tram bodies, tram stops, and bus stops. These advertisements convey the message of digital inclusion to citizens, encouraging more elders to actively embrace technology and embark on a journey toward smart living.
