As their agility deteriorates, elderly face a greater risk of falling in daily life and are more vulnerable to serious injuries.
To address this issue, the team is making use of technology to enhance safety for the elderly. A device is being developed as an accessory to be clipped onto a watch. It will keep track of its bearer’s orientation so that any falling motion can be detected instantly. It can wirelessly activate the user’s smart phone and automatically make calls to the designated numbers once a fall is detected, enabling attention and treatment to be given more promptly.
