Intermediaries' Programmes

The SIE Fund has engaged intermediaries to design and administer various programmes for the Fund's priority area of Innovative Programmes to nurture social entrepreneurs and support ventures of different forms and at various stages of development.

Good Seed

PolyU Technology and Consultancy Co Ltd

 

Objective: This is a unique programme jointly developed and organised by the Institute for Entrepreneurship and the Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Leveraging the expertise and resources of the University especially in the application of design, technology and business concepts, the programme aims to help students or alumni of higher education institutions unleash their innate ability for innovation and develop innovative ideas and creative solutions to tackle social problems and address the needs of the underprivileged in Hong Kong.

Theme: To help participants apply design, technology and business concepts to develop innovative ideas and creative solutions and accordingly develop prototypes to tackle social issues.

Eligibility: The programme is open to students and graduates of higher education institutions in and outside Hong Kong with Hong Kong residency. Participants can enrol on an individual or team basis.

The Programme: The programme consists of three stages:

  • Stage 1: Social Innovators' Classroom
    Interactive, action-oriented training modules focusing on design, technology and business concepts will be offered to equip the participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop innovative ideas and creative solutions for addressing the prevailing social problems.
  • Stage 2: Idea Competition
    Participants will submit their innovative ideas and creative solutions developed in Stage 1 to compete for project funding from the SIE Fund so as to turn the ideas and solutions into prototypes.
  • Stage 3: Project Implementation
    Each winning project team in the competition will be granted $200,000 for project implementation with the support of PolyU, NGOs and mentors from the design and other relevant industry sectors. Sharing sessions and events with practitioners from different sectors and professions will be organised for the funded innovators to explore possible collaboration. They may also be nominated to participate in other pitching events to seek additional resources for further project development.

Post-programme support, such as referral to other suitable intermediaries of the SIE Fund for further funding support and incubation, will also be provided to the funded innovators.

Impact Incubator

The Hong Kong Council of Social Service

 

Objective: "Impact Incubator" provides a one-stop platform that connects social entrepreneurs to knowledge, resources and networks of social welfare agencies, social enterprises, philanthropic foundations, business associations, professional bodies, etc. This platform helps social entrepreneurs implement innovative solutions to address poverty and social exclusion problems in Hong Kong and drive sustainable impact. Bespoke incubation support will also be provided for at least 12 months for each project. Social projects at various stages, including late prototype, start-up, growing and scale-up stages, will be funded during the engagement period.

Theme: "Impact Incubator" targets social enterprises and social entrepreneurs at various stages of development to help them develop specific business skills, identify opportunities and connect resources. While generally non-theme-specific, funded innovative projects have to focus on addressing poverty and social exclusion problems in Hong Kong.

Eligibility: "Impact Incubator" is open to Hong Kong permanent residents aged 18 years or above (for late prototype only) as well as organisations and companies registered in Hong Kong.

The Programme: "Impact Incubator" will support innovative projects at various stages, including late prototype, start-up, growing and scale-up stages.
The programme comprises a series of business clinics, social innovators' networking sessions and social impact assessment training, etc.  They are open to participation by incubatees and the general public.
"Impact Incubator" also offers one-month consultation support to short-listed applicants during funding application stage. Approved applicants would receive all-round incubation support based on the incubatees' needs, such as topic-specific training, external networking opportunities and individual consultation sessions. "Impact Incubator" will also assist incubatees in conducting social impact assessment of their innovative projects.

Innovator Farm

Fullness Social Enterprises Society Ltd

Objective: Designed and implemented by Fullness Social Enterprises Society Ltd (FSES), “Innovator Farm” (IF) is an innovative programme where young people can find the necessary nutrition and environment to grow their social innovation dreams and explore all sorts of possibilities through experimenting “what ifs”. Leveraging its expertise and experience in bringing social entrepreneurship education to secondary and post-secondary schools and incubating young social entrepreneurs for the Hong Kong society, FSES launches the three-year IF Program to unleash the innate ability of youths in innovation and inspire them to develop innovative ideas and creative solutions for tackling social problems and addressing the needs of the underprivileged in Hong Kong.

Theme: To incubate and nurture youths, primarily those aged 15 to 25, to develop innovative ideas and creative solutions and turn them into prototypes and start-up businesses. While generally non-theme-specific, funded innovative projects have to focus on addressing the problems of poverty or social exclusion in Hong Kong.

Eligibility: The programme is open to Hong Kong permanent residents aged 15 to 25. Participants have to enrol on a team basis and each team should comprise 3 to 6 members.  Individual members aged above 25 may also be considered.

The Programme: The programme will adopt a systematic yet playful approach to unleash the potential of the participating youths in innovation and provide them with a friendly and supportive environment with peers of young social innovators. It will support innovative projects at the idea generation, prototype and start-up stages. A series of incubation services taking the forms of experimental learning, coaching, customised training, peer group learning, alumni support, etc. and covering a wide range of topics such as social innovation, market research, financial modelling, decision making, marketing, project management, social impact measurement, pitching, etc. will be provided to the participants. Besides, the participants will be connected to stakeholders from different sectors including social, business, education, government, etc. under the programme. A co-working hub, IF Hub, will also be open to the participants so as to enable them to learn and grow with other social entrepreneurs.

BEHub

The Society of Rehabilitation and
Crime Prevention, Hong Kong

Objective: "BEHub" is designed and implemented by The Society of Rehabilitation and Crime Prevention, Hong Kong (SRACP) with the aim of inspiring and nurturing the disadvantaged population and members of the public to become social innovators to address the challenges relating to poverty and social exclusion faced by the disadvantaged population, particularly rehabilitated persons, current or ex-drug abusers, ethnic minorities, youth-at-risks, people with disabilities or persons in recovery, through innovative solutions.

Theme: "BEHub" is a theme-based innovative programme focusing on issues of disadvantaged population. It is also a platform to help solve the difficulties encountered by the disadvantaged groups by fostering interactions between the social innovators and the disadvantaged people and nurturing the disadvantaged people to become social innovators.

Eligibility: "BEHub" is open to organisations or individuals, particularly disadvantaged people, aged 18 or above without bankruptcy background.

The Programme: "BEHub" will organise idea generation competitions and support innovative projects at prototype and start-up stages to improve the well-being of local disadvantaged population. Briefing sessions and workshops will be held to bridge the information gap on issues of disadvantaged population. Professional and comprehensive services ranging from group training to individual coaching will be provided before and after funding applications to enable the social innovators to grow and succeed. A professional infrastructure will be established to facilitate people from different sectors to share knowledge and experiences and provide support to the social innovators.
