Personal Profile
Mr Leung Che-cheung is a member of the Legislative Council and Chairman of the Yuen Long District Council, as well as President of the New Territories Association of Societies. Mr Leung has over 20 years of experience in community service, with particular concern for Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai. Having witnessed the transformation of Tin Shui Wai from a land of fish ponds to a new town that over 300,000 people call home, he has an in-depth understanding of residents' needs.
Expectation towards Social Innovation and the SIE Fund
"The development of social enterprise in Hong Kong used to be put under the scope of social welfare, with the prime objective of providing job opportunities for the underprivileged. As time goes by, social enterprises are now running with combined market-consciousness and business ingenuity. They are a tremendous advance in bringing about innovative development and in the pursuit of social equality and cohesion. The SIE Fund set up by the Government aims at providing funding and support to social entrepreneurs, by which the foundation for sustainable development of social enterprises will be strengthened. It is expected that more people can benefit from the better utilisation of resources."
