Applying architectural design and services to improve the living environment of low-income families
The company DOMAT was initiated by a team of architects and designers who have the vision of improving the living environment of the underprivileged in Hong Kong. The venture supported by the SIE Fund focuses on 3 locations: fishermen’s cooperative housing in Sai Kung; squatter houses in Pokfulam Village; and sub-divided flats in Sham Shui Po. The team will apply architectural design to improve the living environment and communal condition in these accommodations.
In addition to offering innovative solutions to the housing problems in Hong Kong, this venture will also arouse public awareness of the conditions of the disadvantaged groups, as well as encourage architectural professionals to participate in projects with social value.

Impact/Outcomes
- Conducted research, site visits/meetings/workshops and home modifications to improve the living environment of:
- 55 households of fishermen's cooperative houses in St. Peter's Village in Sai Kung;
- 21 households of squatter houses in Pokfulam Village;
- 33 families of sub-divided flats in Sham Shui Po.
- Designed and produced a cubical bed and have it installed for 20 tenants of sub-divided flats.
- Produced publication materials and held 6 exhibitions on the project.
