    Employing persons with communication disorder to take part in organising "dysphagia-friendly pop-up restaurant" events

     

    The venture recruits persons with communication disorder to be employees who would work with speech therapists as an outreach team in organising "dysphagia-friendly pop-up restaurant" events in eateries in the community. It provides job opportunities and speech therapy training for persons with communication disorder while enabling persons with dysphagia and their caregivers to enjoy "dining out without premade dysphagia diet or food blender".

    Impact/Outcomes

    • Organised 6 “soft meal pop-up restaurant” events at selected restaurants for 30 people with dysphagia and their carers
    • Recruited 5 people with communication disabilities as staff and provided them with communication and vocational training
    • Invited 30 general public to the pop-up restaurants to interact with the staff and taste the dysphagia-friendly food
