An assistive device for improvement of home safety which helps elderly use the toilet independently
The demand for elderly care products is ever increasing in face of the ageing population. In response to the needs of elderly and also stroke patients with lower limb weakness, the project team proposes to develop a modified toilet design to help better assure users’ safety in the toilet and restore their confidence with the enhanced self-care ability.
After consulting rehabilitation specialists, the device is simplified and comes in a purely mechanical version. Production cost and complexity are greatly reduced whereas ease of use is improved. Compared with traditional handles in accessible toilets, this device gives users extra support.
