Design and production of game-based cognitive training products for elderly with dementia and their caregivers

Currently, elderly people with dementia and their caregivers often find it difficult to get suitable and attractive cognitive training products in the market. The venture aims to provide a series of customer-driven products to meet the unique needs of the elderly with dementia in the Asian communities and to facilitate effective cognitive training.

With the advice from an occupational therapist, a registered nurse and a social worker, three prototype designs of game-based cognitive training products have been created. Combining elements of cognitive training and high relevancy to local topics, the product/game design promotes fun cognitive training and foster social engagement. During the funding period, a number of cognitive training activities will be organised, and the elderly with dementia and their caregivers will be invited to take part in the trial of the products. Their views will be collected to fine-tune the products to meet users’ needs before mass production.
