Irene Leung

Irene Leung

Irene had established her reputation in the telecommunications industry in Hong Kong before giving up a prosperous career in the commercial sector to join the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association (SCHSA) in 2012. As one of the early advocators of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the commercial sector, Irene has led CSR projects that involved the creative use of information and communications technology (ICT), including Police "992" emergency support service for the hearing impaired, "Mobile Link" for dementia seniors (winner of United Nation's World Summit Award Mobile in 2010), as well as organising the world's first "Concert In The Dark" with Dialogue-In-The-Dark Hong Kong to raise funds for the visually impaired. The drive behind such a career move was her enthusiasm for social innovation plus a passion for serving our deserving elderly.
Irene sees running a social enterprise as more challenging than a commercial business. However, she keeps devoting herself to developing and expanding into new markets of elderly services. Under her leadership, SCHSA has gone through a major transformation to deliver greater social impact. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Life Journey Centre was opened in 2013. It is Asia’s first ICT-enabled, interactive experience centre that serves to change the conventional perception of “old age” among the young generations. Life Journey Centre has won numerous awards related to ICT, design and social service which are testimonials to Irene's achievement in the pursuit of social innovation.
(Remarks: Irene left SCHSA on 31/1/2018. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.)
