These young people know how it feels being old. Raised by his grandparents, Herman developed empathy for elderly people at a young age. In 2012 he teamed up with Samantha and Nivey (both were students at the University of Science and Technology) and started Eldpathy. Eldpathy encourages participation in elderly philanthropy through experience programmes. The idea brought them the Champion of Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge and $140,000 as seed capital, as well as funding from the SIE Fund for scale up. Eldpathy continues to grow and the concept they promote is getting more popular among schools, NGOs and corporations. It also appeals to retirees who join as volunteers.

  • The SIE Fund is funding their Elderly Poverty Simulation Education Programme. More details can be found here.
