Regarding the invitation for provision of intermediary service for 'Capacity Building' and/or 'Innovative Programmes', over 40 proposals were received as of closure on 11 April. The Intermediary Assessment Committee of the Task Force has completed Stage 1 Initial Assessment and is conducting Stage 2 Detailed Assessment. Recommendations will be submitted to the Task Force for appointment of intermediaries by mid-August.
To help students prepare for the Social Innovation Video Competition, three sessions of Social Innovation & Video Workshop were held on 3, 8 and 9 July with around 200 students attended. Mr Wayne Chau (Founder, Agent of Change), Mr Kelvin Cheung (Founder, FoodCycle UK and UnLtd HK) and Mr Erwin Huang (Founder, Weborganic) were invited to share their experience in social innovation. Media professionals Mr Edgar So (Head of Programming, HK i-Cable News Limited) and Ms Gloria Yick (Producer, Public and Current Affairs Section (TV), RTHK) provided practical tips on making documentaries, while Mr Ben Lam (Adobe Product Specialist, GrandTech Systems Limited) and Mr MC Lam (Technical Consultant, Special Camera Service) shared their expertise in video production. Guided tours were arranged during which the students were able to visit five social innovation projects and learn how they operate.

To mark the beginning of the Social Innovation Video Competition for Secondary Students, a kick-off ceremony was held on 27 June and was attended by more than 150 participants from 37 schools. In the sharing session, Mr Kee Chi-hing (Director, Fullness Christian Vocational Training Centre) encouraged students to be creative and to explore social innovation ideas through the method of ‘addition, subtraction, multiplication and division’. Ms Yuan Siu-ching, (Senior Executive Producer, News & Information Services Division of TVB) shared her experience in documentary production.
To arouse awareness of social innovation and poverty problems among secondary school students, Social Innovation Video Competition with the theme “Tackling Poverty Problems by Social Innovation” is launched. Jointly organised by the SIE Fund and the government’s youth portal Youth.gov.hk, the competition comprises seminars, workshops, visits and the contest. A successful social enterprise should combine social objectives and entrepreneurial skills to achieve sustainable development. For experience sharing, SIE Fund Task Force Members paid a visit to MentalCare Connect on 15 May. Established for more than 10 years, MentalCare Connect adopts a 'market-driven' and 'customer-oriented' approach and runs a wide range of businesses including catering, convenience stores, sales of rehabilitation products, cleansing services and marketing and promotion service. While creating employment opportunities for disadvantaged groups and people with disabilities, profits are fully reinvested into the business for future development – a success social innovation implementers can learn from.
